In the first release of Noisy Streets’ Love in Detty December, I quoted one of my favourite writers Louis de Bernierès, who wrote about love as a temporary madness—erupting like a volcano before subsiding. That edition explored the complex and passionate love lives of young Nigerians in December, capturing stories of romance, heartbreak, wild parties, heartfelt companionships, and bittersweet comedy.
Now, I am excited to announce Love in Detty December Vol.2. Like Vol.1, we invite young Nigerians and African writers to share stories about love during the vibrant December season. We are looking for pieces that capture the full range of romance—from deep, meaningful love to surface-level infatuation, from traditional romance to modern love stories. We want to know what it means to be young and in love in December, especially in places like Lagos, where the streets glow with Christmas lights, frustrating traffic, and the parties never end.
We welcome opinion pieces, fiction, and non-fiction love stories and submissions that align with this theme and adhere to our guidelines.
Submissions are now open, from 03/10/2024, until the deadline on 31/10/2024.
General Submission Guidelines:
Preferred Format: Submissions must be written in English, with consistent verb tense throughout. Proper nouns should be capitalized, and factual accuracy is essential.
Word Count: Short fiction and non-fiction stories: Minimum of 1,200 words, maximum of 1,500 words.
Originality and Plagiarism Policy: All submissions must be the original work of the author. Plagiarism will result in immediate rejection.
